The reptile house at Augsburg Zoo underwent an impressive transformation. In the process, the responsible parties relied on products of the construction chemicals specialist PCI Augsburg GmbH. The requirement was to create a slip and abrasion resistant wear layer that is easy to clean, has an attractive look with best possible colour matching, and in addition absorbs thermal movement of flooring caused by the underfloor heating system. The selected combination of epoxy coating PCI Apoten and PUR sealing PCI Finopur is optimally adapted to the expected wear, totally convincing from a visual perspective, and pays off quickly in matters of functionality. The two-component PCI Epoxigrund 390 was applied as bonding layer between the prepared substrate and the subsequent coating. To increase future bond strength, dry siliceous sand was immediately applied onto the fresh primer. The particularly durable epoxy coating PCI Apoten resulted in a wear-resistant, smooth and impermeable surface. The PCI colour chips set an optical highlight. To ensure optimal embedment of the colour chips, the building professionals made use of the UV-resistant 2K-PUR sealing PCI Finopur. The result: A smooth and matte surface film that allows virtually no light reflections, and in addition is extremely resistant to wear and chemicals.
